How to take ownership of a folder or drive
1. Turn off simple file sharing
To turn off Simple File Sharing, in Windows Explorer/My Computer go to Tools->Folder Options->View then scroll down to the bottom of the window and uncheck Use Simple File Sharing (recommended)
2. right click the drive / partition and click Properties
3. click the security tab
4. now click the advanced box at the bottom
5. now click the owner tab
6. highlight your account/username
7. check the box that says replace owner on subcontainers and objects
8. click apply and then ok
You should now be able to access this folder or partition.
